Session 1 (1 PDU): 1 Strategic & Business Management

Stakeholder Management and the Human Domain of Warfare

What can the Human Domain of warfare teach project managers?  Consider if you could:

  • Shape the project environment to anticipate challenges and generate options, while continuously increasing awareness
  • Prevent, mitigate, contain, and win conflicts
  • Strengthen the resolve, commitment, and capability of stakeholders to support shared interests

The Human Domain consists of the people in our environment. Conflict, in all its forms, will always remain a fundamental of human endeavor. Like warfare, projects operate in the Human Domain and are no stranger to conflict, opposing interests, and outright hostility.

Stakeholder management often determines the success or failure of a project, yet few project managers have a formalized process for doing it. In this engaging presentation, you will learn key concepts from the US Special Forces regarding the Human Domain of warfare, and learn how those same concepts and techniques can enhance your ability to execute your next project within the Human Domain.

Outcomes:

  • Attendees will comprehend why projects are considered to be operating in the Human Domain
  • Attendees will gain familiarity with the fundamentals of the Human Domain
  • Attendees will develop an understanding of practical applications in terms of stakeholder management
