Speaker: Chuck Sammon

In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina created a 24 foot high wall of water on Lake Borgne, which devastated New Orleans.  In August 2007, the USACE issued a RFP for construction of a 2 mile long, 26 foot high surge barrier to prevent future flooding from Lake Borgne. In April 2008, the USACE awarded the $700M contract to Shaw Group Inc., which was the largest design-build civil works project in USACE history. Through computer video, pictures, and first hand knowledge, see the start and finish of this amazing "one of a kind" project.

AaronSever

  • Determine which projects are best suited for Agile.
  • Better communicate project status with Agile project stakeholders.

Speaker Bios:

Randy Chronister is a Project Manager working in the Real Estate Sales sector. He joined the PPRC this year and was recently elected as your Director of Governance. In his spare time, Randy likes to hike, try new restaurants, and occasionally, can be seen on stage at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center.

Renee Parks is a Virtual Private Cloud Global Deployment Manager for DXC Technology, a global IT services company with world-class strength in customer service and IT operations (formed in April, 2017 by a merger of Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Services and CSC).  She leads a team of senior IT project managers deploying Cloud data center infrastructure globally.

She was a Software Support Consultant who added a PMP certification to her portfolio in 2009.  Being an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), and former Master Accredited Systems Engineer, she found that a hands-on technical background, combined with a PMP certification, makes for a very effective IT Project and Program Manager.  She feels this is such a strong combination of expertise that she has staffed her team with PMs that have this background.

Chuck Sammon works for Harris Corporation on the SENSOR Contract as an Enterprise Program Manager and Trainer. Chuck is also an Adjunct Professor at Colorado Technical University teaching Project Management. He served on the PMI PPRC Board of Directors for 12 years as the VP of Programs, President, and Trustee. Chuck has over 30-years of experience managing complex programs and projects for the Federal government and many corporations.  Chuck worked on the $1.4B Inner Harbor Navigational Canal (IHNC) Surge Barrier project in New Orleans. He retired as an officer from the United States Air Force in 1997. Chuck holds two graduate degrees and earned his PMP in 2005.

Aaron Sever is an IT Project Manager for Progressive Insurance who specializes in leading geographically distributed project teams for his organization.  He has over 24 years of experience in Software Development and holds PMP, PMI-ACP, Certified Scrum Master, and ITIL v3 Foundation certifications.  Aaronearned his MBA and Master of Science in Management from Colorado Technical University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN.  Aaron is a member of the PMI Pikes Peak Regional Chapter, having attended his first chapter meeting in April 2010.  Aaron lives in Colorado Springs with his wife and two daughters.  He is an avid runner that enjoys participating in races along the Front Range.
